Jez·e·bel | \ ˈje-zə-ˌbel \
Definition of Jezebel
1: the Phoenician wife of Ahab who according to the account in I and II Kings pressed the cult of Baal on the Israelite kingdom but was finally killed per Elijah's prophecy
2: often not capitalized: an impudent, shameless, or morally unrestrained woman
The term Jezebel translates to "a wicked woman." Upon looking at this definition, I immediately thought, "oh who's Lil fragile masculinity feelings did this badass woman step on?" I was not surprised to find that Jezebel was based on a woman from the Christian and Hebrew bibles. The story boils down to her being a woman who stood up for what she believed. She stood up so much she fought, killed, and pissed more than a few people (men) off for it. I recommend you read the full story. It's very Game of Thrones.
So a wicked woman is one that sticks to her convictions and has beliefs. She goes against society's value that women should be seen and not heard. It's no wonder that the 2021 Jezebel in the news today is VP-elect Kamala Harris.
Two pastors in Texas are under fire for calling Vice-President Kamala Harris a Jezebel, whilst questioning President Biden's mental state and the example VP Harris is setting for girls. Some see this as a slight and focus on all the isms and systems of power in play. I, however, see this as a badge of honor. If you aren't pissing off white pastors in Texas, are you doing your job?
This blog is dedicated to all the "wicked women," all the outspoken femmes, all of us with strong beliefs that are willing to fight and kill and piss people off for it. This is a journal of accomplishments and struggles. It aims to maintain accountability and a commitment to all of us that are the stuff of white pastors in Texas nightmares.
Put in work,
With love from one Jezebel to another
